There’s some good news out there for fans of the cult classic film Gremlins.
Actor Zach Galligan, who plays lead character Billy Peltzer in Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch, recently took part in a Q&A session with fans of the series at the Prince Charles Cinema in London. He provided several new details about the upcoming third installment to the franchise, much to the delight of curious horror fans like myself.
For starters, Galligan will serve as a producer on the upcoming project. He said he agreed to take part in the film after being approached with a compelling idea to reinvent the series. However, he was quick to point out that, while the film may be a reinvention, it won’t be a reboot or a remake, but rather, an official sequel:
“It’s not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape, or form. Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade. So the only thing they will be, and apparently are going to be doing, is something along the lines of like Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later.”

Galligan went on to tell fans that all of the elements from the first Gremlins movie will be referred to; he wasn’t sure if The New Batch will be mentioned. Of everything being incorporated from the original film, though, even includes some of the same characters— and there’s a good chance we’ll get to see an adult version of Billy.
“I swear on my life, I don’t know if I’m in it or not, but I think there is probably a decent chance since I’m one of the few people left standing from the first movie,” the actor was quoted as saying.
