“Then there’s no point in our being logical, is there?” – Jonathan Barnavelt

Of Warlocks and Houses with Secrets

Eli Roth who is best known for his horror films like Hostel and The Green Inferno has partnered with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment to bring the beloved John Bellairs book, The House with a Clock in Its Walls to life. This is the first installment of the series.

Walls could very well be the next Harry Potter if the movie does well. Set in Michigan, it is about a recently orphaned boy, Lewis Barnavelt (Owen Vaccaro), who goes to live with his eccentric uncle Jonathan (Jack Black) in a mysterious house filled with secrets.

As it turns out, Jonathan is a warlock and the crazy next-door neighbor, Mrs. Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett as you have never seen her before) is a witch. They tutor Lewis in the ways of white magic. However, everything gets considerably darker when it is revealed that Jonathan’s house used to be owned by an evil warlock, Isaac Izard (Kyle MacLachlan).

Isaac has hidden a clock in the walls of the house. It is counting down to the day when he can destroy the earth. It is up to Lewis, Jonathan and Mrs. Zimmerman to thwart that plot. Check out the trailer!
