Shudder has announced that the French holiday horror film The Advent Calendar will premiere exclusively on their platform on Thursday, December 2, as a Shudder Original.

Holiday horror is an extremely popular sub-genre, and writer/director Patrick Ridremont’s The Advent Calendar promises to give us that chill we all want to feel in the air during the Christmas season. The Advent Calendar made its debut early this year at London’s FrightFest, where it garnered primarily favorable reviews.

Eugenie Derouand plays Eva, a former dancer now confined to a wheelchair and unable to walk, let alone dance. When her friend Sophie (Honorine Magnier) gifts her with a wood antique advent calendar, Eva learns the hard way to be careful what she wishes for.

You see, each window in the calendar holds not only the traditional piece of candy but also a surprise that happens in Eva’s real life. Sometimes the surprise is good, but most often, it results in death and destruction. Given the possibility of walking again, will Eva continue to work her way through the calendar or possibly sacrifice herself to stop the other people in her life from being affected?

The Advent Calendar will join other excellent holiday horror content on Shudder, where you can catch it streaming among the likes of the original Black Christmas (a.k.a. “The horror film that made me love horror films”), Rare Exports, Christmas Evil, A Christmas Horror Story and Better Watch Out. These films are personal favorites, and I faithfully watch them each year when the holidays roll around.

So, when you have had your fill of those fun, snowy, glittery Christmas romance films, switch on over to Shudder for The Advent Calendar and other ho-ho-horror.

If you love holiday horror films but are not a Shudder subscriber, Christmas has come early! New subscribers can receive a free 7-day subscription when they sign up through the website.
