Now that Halloween is on the horizon, we can expect Netflix to roll out plenty of thriller or horror-related films and series. They brought us the first half of Wednesday’s second season early, and part two released in early September. But Jenna Ortega isn’t the only big star spreading spooky joy on Netflix.
First up is adult animated series Haunted Hotel, which was created by Matt Roller. Roller previously worked on Rick and Morty and Archer, and he is also the showrunner and Executive Producer for Haunted Hotel.
Netflix’s description of the new comedy-horror series reads: “A single mother of two struggles to run a haunted hotel with the help of her estranged brother, who is now one of the ghosts haunting the hotel and thinks the other ghosts have some pretty good ideas.”
Lending their voice talents to Haunted Hotel are Will Forte (Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai), Eliza Coupe (Rick and Morty), Natalie Palamides (American Dad), Jimmi Simpson (Dark Matter) and Skyler Gisondo (Superman).
Haunted Hotel will consist of 10 30-minute episodes, and was won by Netlix in a “highly competitive” auction.
Haunted Hotel will be available on Netflix September 19

Closer to the end of September, set your sights on an 8-episode limited series called Wayward. And who is the big star involved? Well, it’s only the great Toni Collette! That’s right, Toni Collette of such highly rated horror films as The Sixth Sense and Hereditary is lending her talents to a Netflix original thriller series.
Wayward was created by Canadian comedian Mae Martin, who also serves as the executive producer, co-showrunner and star of the series. Martin says they and co-showrunner Ryan Scott were inspired by films such as Girl Interrupted, Fargo and Get Out, so it’s safe to assume Wayward will include a fair amount of dark humor.
Wayward is set in the stereotypical “perfect” town of Tall Pines, which holds its fair share of deep, dark secrets. When Police officer Alex Dempsey (Mae Martin) and their wife Laura (who is pregnant) move into a new home in Tall Pines, Alex encounters Leila and Abbie, who attend a school for troubled youth. The two are determined to escape the place, and in the process, bring to life all of Tall Pines’ secrets.
You can see Toni Collette in the video below as Evelyn, the leader of the school.
All eight episodes of Wayward will make their debut on Netflix September 25.
