Mindhunter Season 3 reportedly in discussion again with David Fincher
By Mads Lennon
It looks like Mindhunter Season 3 might end up happening after all! Sources close to Netflix recently revealed to Small Screen that discussions between Netflix and director David Fincher are back for another season!
Keep in mind that all of this is just a rumor right now, but it’s a good sign if Fincher is open to returning to the show. Fans were devastated when it was revealed Netflix had put Mindhunter on the back-burner. Even though it reportedly never got the numbers the executives wanted, Mindhunter still garnered a large and dedicated fanbase.
The news is pretty surprising because it seems like the show was all said and done. The cast, including lead actors Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv were all released from their contracts in January of last year, so it’s hard to say if the new season would see them return or if it would feature a new cast.
Adding fuel to the “this show is definitely canceled” camp is when Fincher told Vulture that Mindhunter had been “a lot” for him. It sounded like he needed to take a permanent break from the series. Fincher basically ended up taking on everything himself amounting to 90-hour work weeks.
Rumor has it that David Fincher is more “upbeat” about Mindhunter Season 3
The relationship between Fincher and Netflix still looks like it’s a strong one especially since Fincher stuck around to direct Mank which has received endless acclaim.
Per Small Source, last fall, a Netflix spokesperson revealed that a new season could happen five years from now. But now their source has a more positive message to share with fans.
“All I can really tell you about ‘Mindhunter’ is that conversations between Netflix and Fincher are ongoing. They are discussing the possibility of bringing the show back for a third season.”
They continued to say that it’s still really early, but Fincher seems more “upbeat” about the project.
