What list of horror villains is complete without one of the most famous classic monsters in film and literature? First appearing in Bram Stoker’s novel of the same name, Dracula has gone on to appear in countless films, novels, television shows, and many more. So why do we love this guy so much?

Though vampires appeared in pop culture prior to Stoker’s novel, Dracula was sexy, he was suave, and in many ways, he was a sympathetic character. Dracula has become the blueprint for what we expect a vampire to be – well-spoken and cultured, yet completely monstrous, sexy yet dangerous, a perfect embodiment of the price to be paid for immortality. And no, he does not sparkle.
