Psycho (1960)

I’m aware that this film has already been remade . . . starring Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates, no less . . . but I have never watched even one second of the Gus Van Sant remake, and choose to live my life as if this film is just an urban legend.

Why would anyone want to even attempt to remake this film?  Because it’s not gory enough?  Don’t be stupid.  Because it’s in black and white?  Sure – that’s the only thing holding this film back from greatness.

Ugh.

I enjoy how the TV show, “Bates Motel,” is providing a back story for Norman and his dear old ma, but at the same time I fear that the show might inspire someone to remake one of Alfred Hitchcock’s all-time greatest films once the series airs its final episode (whenever that may be).  Truth be told, I’m afraid that the wonderful TV show, “Hannibal,” will similarly inspire a remake of “The Silence of the Lambs.”  If there is any justice in the universe, my fears will not be realized, especially with “Psycho,” which has so many iconic scenes and performances that no remake could ever hope to stack up.
