Though some would argue that the more recent instalments of this series haven’t been as good as the earlier ones, American Vampire is still an excellent read for people looking for new twists on the vampire mythos (anything but sparkles, please). The premise of the narrative revolves around the idea that vampires can evolve – become a new kind of monster. This is just what happens when a few of the old school European set come to America and (accidentally) turn Wild West outlaw Skinner Sweet into a vampire. But he’s not like them: For one thing, he’s immune to sun. The series follows him and his only progeny, silent film actress Pearl Jones, through the decades and key points in history.
