10 Horror-Themed Graphic Novels You Should Read
By Teresa Lobos
Preacher
This graphic novel series was created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon and published by Vertigo in the late 90s. It tells the story of Jesse Custer, a Texan preacher losing his faith that finds himself possessed by a supernatural entity, Genesis, in a cataclysmic event that destroys his church and congregation. Driven by a profound sense of right and wrong and now blessed with the word of God at his disposal, Jesse, along with his ex-girlfriend Tulip, and a hard-living Irish vampire Cassidy cross America to track down God himself and force him to explain why he abandoned Heaven. Preacher is amazing, amazing enough that AMC will even be adapting it as a series sometime next year. Better start reading it now so you can debate intelligently over whether the TV show matches up to the graphic novels.
