7. All Cheerleaders Die (2013)

I wouldn’t argue that this is a good movie, it’s pretty silly, actually. But it does have its interesting points when it comes to the final girl. Though the film does a terrible job in its attempt to subvert horror tropes (if you’re going to have a narrative revolving around cliche archetypes, at least put some soul into it), it has some fun taking the elements of the final girl and giving them a whir in the blender along with elements of Mean Girls and a healthy dose of magic and girl power. Though Maddy is ostensibly the final girl of the film (she dies, but is brought back), we’ve also got the magical Leena and a screaming Alexis emerging from the ground. This film has a lot going on, and not all of it is coherent, but it’s fun nonetheless.
