Top Five Awesome Cameos in Awful Horror Films
By Jeremy Dick
5. Johnny Depp in Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare
The sixth entry in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise was a far cry from the original. By this point in the series, Freddy Krueger had transformed from a genuinely frightening monster into more of a wisecracking comedian. Trading in the scares for laughs resulted in this sequel that’s highly entertaining because of its cheesiness, but in no way can be considered a good movie.
One thing Freddy’s Dead had going for it was a cameo from Johnny Depp, who started his acting career with the original A Nightmare on Elm Street. When Breckin Meyer’s character, Spencer, is watching TV, he sees an anti-drug PSA with Depp comparing fried eggs to “your brain on drugs.” Shortly thereafter, Freddy smashes him in the face with the frying pan, making the a-list actor 0 for 2 against the Springwood Slasher.
