After trying to help other survivors by providing shelter for other survivors, Gareth decided to switch to the dark side after Terminus was seized by a gang of rapists and robbers. After reclaiming Terminus, Gareth convinced dozens of others that they needed to be the ones to start robbing and killing others, otherwise they would be the ones getting victimized.

Gareth had become so comfortable with killing others, however, that he completely underestimated Rick’s group. Not only did he lose Terminus and most of his followers thanks to Carol and the others, he didn’t last long at all once he finally had a showdown with Rick— but not before taking a big bite out of Bob.
