Similar casting rumors also named Stuart Townsend as a candidate for the part. Townsend is probably best recognized as the vampire Lestat in Queen of the Damned or as Dorian Gray in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
I’m not sure how close Townsend came to securing the part of Rick Grimes, but it looks like this was yet another tough break for him. It would be a similar disappointment for the actor that’s on par with him getting replaced as Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy the day before he was to begin shooting.
