1. Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter – Paramount

That first Friday the 13th film is damn near perfect. So why is Part IV at the top of the list? Isn’t that practically unheard of for a fourth film to top such an amazing first one? I guess that just tells you how much I love The Final Chapter.

This entry in the series was basically the perfect storm of everything I love about Friday the 13th. We were still in the familiar, creepy location of Crystal Lake which hadn’t yet gotten stale. Jason had just gotten fully acclimated to his new hockey mask, and was now dead-set on just killing as many people as he could. And with Tommy Jarvis, we started a new interesting subplot in the series which would span out for the next couple of movies.

Also, you had Crispin Glover in the film. His character, Jimbo, is one of the most memorable of all of Jason’s victims in the series. I know I’ll never forget that dance.

This may have been called The Final Chapter, but I’m happy that this movie didn’t actually end up being the last entry in the film series, because that meant we could see Jason continue to do what he does best for many more movies to come. But this was when the killer was at his peak.
