9. Star Rooney Mara almost quit acting because of this movie.

As 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street permanently made Heather Langenkamp, who starred as Nancy, one of the genre’s most appreciated stars, the actress will always be proud of her performance in the classic slasher film. The exact opposite holds true for the new Nancy in the 2010 reboot, played by Rooney Mara.

In the time following the premiere of the Elm Street remake, Mara has been outspoken about her regret in signing on for the movie. She admitted that she wasn’t excited about the role in the first place, actually feeling disappointed when she realized she nailed her audition and was likely to get it.

“I was like, this isn’t what I signed up for. If this is what my opportunities are going to be like, then I’m not that interested in acting,” the film’s heroine said about the movie. “So I was very discouraged and disheartened.”

Those are definitely not the sentiments you want to hear coming from the star of a film. Fortunately for Mara— and fans of the franchise— there won’t be any sequels to this movie, meaning we can hopefully put it behind us and forget about it, as best we can.
