Jason X – New Line Cinema

Jason X is the controversial tenth film in the Friday the 13th franchise, which saw Jason Voorhees going to outer space. Here are ten things you probably didn’t know about the film.

Whatever else you want to say about the movie, Jason X was certainly unique. We’d seen Jason travel as far as Manhattan, but never in outer space so many years in the future. Taking the machete wielding maniac out of Crystal Lake and into a spaceship wasn’t something most fans of the series had even conceived of happening.

In 2001, the movie premiered as the third-lowest grossing entry in the Friday the 13th series. It seems most casual moviegoers weren’t willing to stomach the idea of seeing Jason in space, considering how poorly other horror sequels turned out when trying that same concept. Admittedly, the idea is pretty ridiculous.

But if you can get past the over-the-top campy nature of the movie, it can be a lot of fun to watch. I’m not saying it’s scary at all— at no point did it have the suspense or eerie atmosphere of any of the earlier movies— but it’s entertaining in its own goofy right.

Let’s go through and talk about ten things about the movie you probably didn’t know.
