5. The trailer is the most disliked in Youtube history

Have you ever heard that phrase about not judging a book by its cover? The equivalent when it comes to movies is that you shouldn’t judge a film by its trailer. But that’s what happened with Ghostbusters on a very extreme level, as when Sony first released the trailer for the film, the majority of the audience immediately decided they weren’t going to see it.

When the official trailer for the reboot was first released in March of 2016, months ahead of the film’s premiere, it wasn’t exactly met with warm reception. On its first day alone, it garnered nearly 14,000 “thumbs down” ratings on Youtube, compared to about 12,000 likes. That would only be just a sign of what was to come for the preview video.

As of July 2016, the trailer is sitting on around 215,000 likes, with nearly a full million dislikes. This gives it the distinction of being the most disliked movie trailer on Youtube ever, and the ninth-most disliked video overall on the website.

For what it’s worth, the film has done much better with critics than the trailer’s criticism would suggest. But that unfortunate stigma still likely impacted ticket sales in a very heavy way upon the premiere.
