Harold Ramis (Columbia Pictures)

3. Harold Ramis does have a cameo in the film

While the decision had been made to turn Ghostbusters 3 into a reboot instead of a sequel, that didn’t have to mean that the original crew we all still loved could no longer be involved. All four of the actors to play Ghostbusters in the original films wound up appearing in the reboot, which not only includes Bill Murray (even after refusing for so many years) but Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014.

So if Ramis is no longer with us, how did he have a cameo? That’s a great question, and the answer is that while he wasn’t there to play a character or shoot any scenes, his likeness still made it into the film in the form of a bronze bust of the actor. And if you aren’t paying attention, you might just miss it.

Outside of Erin Gilbert’s office in Columbia University, the Ramis bust can be seen on camera. It might or might not have been picked up my many Ghostbusters fans, but even with the others appearing in the movie, this “cameo” was probably the most respectful way of acknowledging the original film, its performers, and its fans.
