New Line Cinema’s New Nightmare

7. Robert Englund in Wes Craven’s New Nightmare

Wes Craven’s New Nightmare was an interesting film that answered the question, “What would happen if Freddy Krueger came to the real world?” As it sounds, Many of the cast and crew from the original movie appeared as themselves in a plot that saw Freddy escape the screen and target Heather Langenkamp, the actress who played Nancy in the first film.

It’s really cool to see the actors from that film in this kind of situation, and the movie is a pretty enjoyable flick from Wes Craven— who also appears as himself in the movie. But the one which stuck out most of all would be Robert Englund, whom many fans only knew as Freddy Krueger and had no idea what he really looked like.

The first time you see Englund in the film, he is dressed up as Freddy, doing a media appearance on a talk show. It was a very interesting way of breaking the fourth wall, and letting the fans take a peek behind the scenes of the Elm Street franchise.

As “Freddy” first goes after Langenkamp through terrifying nightmarish visions, the horrified actress calls her co-star Englund to talk about it. Without being clear, Englund suggested that he was already familiar with the evil presence, painting a disturbing portrait during the entire conversation.
