6. Hellraiser: Hellseeker

Hellraiser will always be one of the most revered horror films. Doug Bradley’s Pinhead is very well known and recognizable with horror fans. And most consider Clive Barker’s original film in 1987 to be an unbeatable cult classic.

Even so, it’s sort of a running joke that every Hellraiser sequel sucks. Some fans seem to be partial to Hellraiser II: Hellbound, with the rest all known as crappy movies. And I’m not denying that several of these entries ARE pretty bad (especially Revelations). But one sequel stuffed in the middle shines above the garbage surrounding it.

I’m talking about the sixth movie in the series, Hellraiser: Hellseeker. Ashley Laurence reprises her role as Kirsty Cotton from the first movie, and Dean Winters (of HBO’s Oz) co-stars as her fiance. Winters’ character searches for Kirsty when she goes missing after a traffic accident, but seems to find himself entering Pinhead’s world instead.

Winters, Laurence, and Doug Bradley as Pinhead all turn in excellent performances. The well-written story is a bit of a mindbender as well. It’s actually the last Hellraiser movie to feature any creative involvement from Clive Barker. And I guess that shows, as this was the last time the series ever saw any quality.
