5. Child’s Play 2

Who would have guessed Child’s Play to be such a great movie? If you read the synopsis in print, it doesn’t sound very scary. A young boy named Andy receives a cursed doll as a present, and the new toy starts killing people. Sounds silly, but if you watched this as a child way back when as I have, then you still may be having nightmares to this day. Most horror fans agree, as it’s certified as fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Child’s Play 2 is sincerely just as entertaining at the first movie. Following the events of part 1, Andy is placed into foster care where a rebuilt Chucky the killer doll finds him again. Andy and his foster sister Kyle fight to survive in the midst of Chucky’s new killing spree.

This movie is full of brilliant bits of dark humor mixed with genuinely freaky moments. It’s even more apparent when you watch the rest of the film series, as the drop-off in quality happens immediately with Child’s Play 3. But 2 is rotten on Rotten Tomatoes with only 40%. Really, that needs be much closer to the rating of the stellar first film.
