4. Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3
Honestly, it’s hard as hell to follow the continuity of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films. The family seems to change with every one, except for Leatherface (obviously). And the quality of the movies in this franchise range from 10/10 (the 1974 original) all the way down to 0/10 (the fourth movie, The Next Generation).
Although the original movie gets a lot of love (as it should), you’ll hear a lot of people talk about part 2 as well. Horror fans seem to love the Dennis Hopper starring sequel as much as the first movie, based on how much it’s still discussed. But in between 2 and the atrocious fourth film, there’s an often forgotten sequel which is actually pretty decent.
Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 has the same basic storyline as all of the others. People traveling through Texas wind up in Leatherface territory, and fight to escape when his family captures them. Lord of the Rings fans will appreciate Viggo Mortensen as one of the cannibalistic family members.
I can agree that the third TCM is nowhere near as scary as the first film. But, honestly, no movie is. That’s the scariest movie of ALL TIME. But TCM 3 is still very fun and its dark humor makes it worth watching.
