2. Friday the 13th
Directed by: Breck Eisner
Release date: October 13, 2017
I’m pretty much a lifelong fan of Jason Voorhees. Each film in the franchise is enjoyable to watch in their own ways. After Jason X, however, there wasn’t much else left to do but reboot the story. New Line did just that in 2009 with an official reboot of the film, but as it’s average at best it put any sequel plans on the rocks.
It has taken eight years, but it looks like Jason is climbing back out of the depths of Crystal Lake. New Line is opting for another Friday the 13th movie, wisely ignoring the 2009 reboot. Breck Eisner is directing the film, using a screeplay with Nick Antosca and Aaron Guzikowski writing.
Details are for the most part unknown in terms of plot. We know that it’s rumored to explore Jason’s origins a bit more. His mother Pamela Voorhees, who Betsy Palmer plays in the original film, is also going to be in it. Jason’s father Elias, never shown on screen before, may also be written into the story.
Originally, this movie was premiering on January 13, 2017, as that falls on a Friday the 13th. Production snags would end up pushing the release date back to the next Friday the 13th, which is in October.
