4. A real life tragedy would change the original title of the movie
The original plan for this flick wasn’t for it to simply be called Resident Evil. Plans were for it to premiere with the title Resident Evil: Ground Zero. That title would, of course, refer to the laboratory being the site of the outbreak of the T-virus.
During pre-production on the film, however, 9/11 would occur. The event, as we all know, is one of the worst national tragedies of all time. From that moment on, the term “Ground Zero” would always remind one of the site where the World Trade Center once stood. For common sense reasons, Sony dropped the Ground Zero subtitle from the movie, changing it to just be Resident Evil.
This original story would have also seen Alice and Rain as the leaders of a commando team sent in to “Ground Zero” to investigate a deadly viral outbreak.
