Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby (Paramount Pictures)

19. Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow, Rosemary’s Baby)

Even if you have yet to watch this 1960s classic, chances are you’re at least familiar with it. Rosemary’s Baby is considered, almost universally, to be one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Roman Polanski’s film about a young mother giving birth to the son of the Devil is a psychological horror experience like no other. Decades later, the film is still regarded with high praise from those who have seen it.

When Rosemary and her husband move into an apartment with a strange history, things escalate rather quickly. Death and ill fortune comes to seemingly everyone they know. Still, the couple moves forwards with their plans to have a baby. They plan a night for conception, but Rosemary ends up passing out, later waking up pregnant.

As you can expect, Rosemary’s pregnancy is tumultuous. Carrying the spawn of Satan is no easy task. But Rosemary gets through it and gives birth to a healthy Antichrist. Although hearing about the true father of her baby horrifies her, the fact remains that this is her baby. We’ll never know for sure what happens after the events of the film, but it seemed Rosemary had no intentions of abandoning him.
