14. Jennifer Hills (Camille Keaton, I Spit on Your Grave)

The late 70s revenge-horror flick I Spit on Your Grave is definitely a brutal movie. A budding writer, Jennifer Hills, rents a peaceful Connecticut cottage to work on her first novel. Soon after, a handful of shady locals take notice of the attractive young woman and get nefarious ideas.

What happens next is some of the most disturbing footage to come from a horror film. Several men take turns viciously raping Jennifer, including forcing her to take a mentally disabled man’s virginity. One of the men orders the handicapped guy to kill her, realizing she can identify them. Unable to go through with hit, the lackey tells the leader that he did kill Jennifer, only pretending to do so instead.

Big mistake. Once Jennifer recovers, she is hellbent on revenge. One by one, she carries out the murders of the men who assaulted her, starting with the man who spared her life. It’s a reign of carnage for the rest of the film, as Jennifer gets payback in the most brutal ways possible. The film is very interesting because the killer is the protagonist, and most viewers won’t have much sympathy for the victims.
