5. Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell, Scream series)

“Hello, Sidney!”

If you’ve seen any of the Scream films, you’ve got to love Neve Campbell’s Sidney. The story in that franchise begins with the death of Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore) before the killers move on to target Sidney. Several of her friends are killed but Sid fights back, unmasking her killers before killing them both. Her boyfriend is one of the killers involved, and she takes him out with a bullet to the head.

But the madness continues. When Sidney goes to college, a new killer dons the Ghostface mask to stalk Sidney once again. Yet another Ghostface follows her to Hollywood in Scream 3. Wes Craven’s Scream 4 brings about more bloodshed in Sid’s life, as another mysterious killer tries to butcher her once more. It really seems that this poor woman just can’t seem to get a break.

In all four Scream films, Sidney is a defiant badass. These Ghostface killers just can’t seem to take her out, despite all of the other bodies they’ve left piled up. Without Wes Craven around, we might not ever see another movie in this series. But Sidney Prescott will forever remain one of the all-time greatest horror movie protagonists.
