3. Gerald’s Game

Stephen King is certainly a master storyteller, especially when it comes to horror and its sub-genres. The early 90s novel Gerald’s Game is a psychological horror story from the legendary author, and it’s downright eerie as hell. Anyone who has read this book knows right away that it’s one of the most disturbing stories to come from the King.

Gerald’s Game is about the kinky bedroom activities of a married couple going terribly, horribly wrong. While she is handcuffed to the bed, the wife accidentally kills her husband, thus trapping her in bed with his body. There’s nothing left for the woman to do but hope for a rescue, but she quickly starts losing her mind. After that, it’s hard to keep track of what’s real, and what isn’t.

I don’t want to spoil this story for those unaware of how it plays out. But I can tell you it’s certainly one of King’s creepiest novels and it should have been adapted a long time ago. It’s going to be another Netflix adapted feature film, premiering on the streaming service sometime in 2017. Although King himself wasn’t involved in production, he has seen a cut of the movie, and says it’s “horrifying”.
