Every Stephen King Adaptation Coming Out This Year
By Jeremy Dick
The Dark Tower (From Columbia Pictures)
2. The Dark Tower
This is one that has been a long time coming. The Dark Tower novel series by Stephen King has long been among his most popular works. It has taken some time, but the popular story is finally getting a proper feature film adaptation. Likely, it’s going to be just the first in a series of movies based on the printed stories.
In the film, Idris Elba is taking on the role of the protagonist, Roland Deschain. The part of the antagonist, the Man in Black, will be portrayed by the one and only Matthew McConaughey. Early set pics of both of these great actors in character look fantastic, and their performances will only make this adaptation of the novels even better.
Director Nikolaj Arcel has said that the movie is a “sequel to the books, in a way”. It’s not totally clear if he means this literally, is in that it will be an actual follow-up to the final book in the series. Or if this will just be a fresh take on the story, faithful enough to the books to still feel like a “sequel” for its biggest fans. Either way, it’s going to be awesome to see this story make it to the big screen on August 4, 2017.
