Friday the 13th game cross-platform play a possibility
By Jeremy Dick
The Friday the 13th: The Game team have confirmed that cross-platform play for all three launch platforms remains a goal which could happen in the future.
I can’t tell you how excited I am for Friday the 13th: The Game. We are now less than one week away, with May 26 being the official launch date. I have cleared my entire schedule to spend the whole day at Camp Crystal Lake. I’ve just been waiting far too long not to devote the whole day to the game on day one.
Perhaps the only thing that brings a small tear to my eye about this game, however, relates to cross-platform play. You see, most of my friends who will be getting this game are PS4 owners. I feel a little left out in the cold over on the Xbox One. Every gamer knows that killing strangers is fun, but killing your friends is more fun.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the hundreds of dollars I’d need to buy a PS4, PS Plus, and another copy of the game just to play it with these guys. So it looks like I’m heading to camp solo. Still, I couldn’t help but wonder if cross-platform play could still happen someday. After all, the official website’s FAQ has always listed it as a possibility:
"“We hope to make this cross-platform between all three launch platforms, however there are quite a few logistical issue[s] to solve before we can confirm. Some of which are out of our control.”"
Now that we’re about to launch, however, I reached out to the Friday the 13th: The Game team to see if there are any cross-platform play updates. They confirm that this remains a goal for the developers, but they’re not quite there yet. While not dishing out exact details, they told me that we’ll simply “see what happens.”
May 26th is going to be the best day of my life.
While far from a guarantee, it’s a good sign the devs still consider this a goal of theirs. That makes it a possibility. I can only imagine the behind-the-scenes headaches involved in making this happen. But this would be a fantastic way for everyone to play with all of their friends, regardless of the platform.

Still, I’m going to be spending the day exploring Camp Crystal Lake, Packanack Lodge, and Higgins Haven. If any of you Xbox players want to play a few rounds with me, add me at slimymeteor, and I’ll see you at camp on Friday!
EDIT: Melissa Ann on Facebook has pointed out that co-creator Ronnie Hobbs says cross-platform play “just isn’t going to happen” in a tweet dated May 8th. This tweet straight from the boss does make it seem far more unlikely. But I’m still taking their word that it remains a potential goal, if the stars for it to happen align just right.
