2. The film features many actual props from other horror movies

One of the cool features of Jason Goes to Hell are all the “cameos” of iconic props from other horror films. Somehow, this movie doesn’t just feature one little nod, but several. It’s just interesting to see these shout-outs to some beloved horror movies.

We’ll start by talking about the most well known of these, the Necronomicon. You can see the infamous Book of the Dead in this movie, and it ought to look familiar. It’s the actual prop designed by Tom Sullivan for the Evil Dead movies. Sullivan has since said this was done without his permission and he wasn’t paid a dime, though it’s still a cool easter egg.

Fans of the movie Creepshow might also recognize the infamous crate from “The Crate”. The chained box from the Stephen King short story is shown. On it bears the label “Arctic Expedition Julia Carpenter Horlicks University”. That’s probably an additional nod to John Carpenter and The Thing.

There’s a couple other small ones. Jason’s prop heart, the one shown in the morgue, was used in another horror movie. It was used for Monkey Man’s heart in the vampire flick From Dusk till Dawn. Finally, the jungle gym near the Voorhees house in the film is the one from the 1963 film The Birds.
