Regardless of next week’s theatrical release and a projected box-office slaughter in regards to opening weekend records, there are still some fans out there that aren’t thoroughly convinced that the young and talented actor Bill Skarsgard can fill those massive clown shoes legendary icon Tim Curry once wore back in 1990 in the made for TV miniseries. On that note, clever move on the studios’ part stretching the timeline of the TV to theatrical adaptation 27 years apart; as fans of the Stephen King masterpiece know Pennywise comes out to play every 27 years.

As everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I think the man who implanted Coulrophobia into the minds of millions almost 30 years ago might bear some heavy weight here; and Curry hasn’t so much as offered one — until now.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Geek at the Canada Fan Expo, Curry was asked point blank his thoughts on his Pennywise successor. The silence is now broken folks!

Per SG:

"“Well, I like [Bill] Skarsgard very much, I think he’s very clever. It’ll be interesting what sort of clown face he puts on, because it’s not an obvious clown face at all. I’ve seen the trailer and you can’t really see him at all. So I’m fascinated to see it. He’s very good.”"

The veteran actor also noted that, like the gripes of many fans of the miniseries, hated the ending in the 1990 adaptation, and hopes to see something more spectacular on-screen.

"“I hope they make the ending better because on [the TV version], I turned into some kind of giant spider and it was not very scary.”"

Of course, it goes without saying that while Curry’s blessing seems to be somewhat a sigh of relief for some, at the end of the day the decision will be made by your own eyes and mind come September 8th, 2017.
