I couldn’t wait to get off work, shut out the world and become engrossed in one of my new favorite shows The Exorcist this past Saturday morning. I got comfy, turned off my phone and followed Father Tomas and excommunicated priest Marcus Keane as they once again battled the demonic.

Episode 2 titled Safe as Houses begins in the Vatican. We see our old friend from Season 1, Father Bennett diligently working in an office. He looks troubled and for good reason. The events involving the Rance family possession has reached the higher-ups in Vatican City and needless to say, they are not pleased.

Father Bennett’s summoned to a Vatican tribunal consisting of high-ranking members of the clergy. Father Bennett proceeds to tell the tribunal of the process of demonic possession known as integration. According to Father Bennett, he tells them that during the integration phase of demonic possession the soul and the demon become one entity. He tells them that when integration has occurred you cannot tell the possession exists anymore.

Father Bennett explains that a conspiracy exists in the Catholic Church and infiltrated by members of the clergy suffering from integration. Bennett accuses a high-ranking Cardinal of the Church is in fact suffering from it and is part of the conspiracy. In an attempt to prove him wrong the Cardinal drinks a chalice full of holy water. With no response, he slyly winks at Father Bennett in view of everyone present.

For those of use who watched Season 1, we know for a fact that a conspiracy does indeed exist in the church. During the events of the first season, a series of brutal murders linked to the occult began to manifest around the time of the Pope’s visit to Chicago. The conspirators within the church lay the blame on Father Tomas and Keane, hence why they are on the run.

Last episode we saw Father Tomas and Keane attempting to perform an exorcism on a young woman named Cindy. We find out that she had recently lost a child and was now possessed. After outrunning her Deputy Sheriff husband and his band of friends, Father Tomas and Keane attempt to perform the ritual at an old abandoned barn.

When we last left out favorite demon busters they were found by said husband and friends. We learn that the husband has taken Cindy to a hospital. Meanwhile Father Tomas and Keane are being held by his friends in the barn. Both men try to plead with their captors and explain what is happening. When they don’t believe them, Keane informs them everyone at the hospital, including Cindy herself, is going to die.

As the husband is at the hospital looking over Cindy she springs to life in all of her demonic glory. Her husband suddenly realizes that maybe the two crazies in the barn were not wrong. He leaves to seek Father Tomas and Keane’s help.

Last episode we caught up with Andy Kim, who has a house full of foster children. Andy has boarded up the old well. Last week we found blind Caleb standing on it in the middle of the night. Social Worker Rose who is staying at the house for an inspection, becomes concerned with Caleb and the incidents of the previous night.

Andy attempts to find out what happened and why Caleb had wandered off in the middle of the night. While Andy is speaking with Caleb, Caleb informs him he was not alone. Caleb tells Andy that Verity, the resident bad girl of the house had taken him out there last night. When confronted with the accusations Verity swears she did not take him and knows nothing about it.

Several small strange occurrences begin happening around the house. Caleb bites into an apple and immediately spits it out. We see that the apple appears rotten and filled with maggots. Meanwhile Shelby stops at the farm next door and watches a lamb give birth.

During the birthing it goes terribly wrong and a deformed baby lamb is born. In an act of mercy the farmer kills it with a pitchfork. Back the hospital we find that all hell had broken loose, literally. Cindy has been on a satanic rampage killing and destroying anything she can get her hands on. Father Tomas and Keane find her in the Nursery holding a baby.
