X Files: The truth looks ambiguous and dark in new trailer
The new X Files trailer will take your breath away. From alien life forms, to the Cigarette Smoking Man to cryptic utterances like, “kill him before he kills us all,” the world has gotten darker and more duplicitous since 2016. Are Mulder and Scully any closer to the truth?
“The truth still lies in the X Files, Mulder.” – Dana Scully
So, It Begins
I feel like I am the only person on earth at times that enjoyed the tenth season of the X Files. Maybe I am just too enamored with the series but seeing David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis all reprising their roles made me giddy.
Sure. The fans are always complaining that the mythology episodes are hard to follow and that showrunner Chris Carter strayed from the blueprint. Sorry, I disagree. I was always a fan of the alien conspiracy. It is what hooked me on the show way back in 1993.
Here we are two years after season ten and upon viewing the trailer at the Verge, the eleventh season feels exciting. From the introduction of mysterious new characters to CSM talking about the end of civilization, if this is any indication of what is awaiting the viewing audience, I just got chills.
Things Are Looking Dire
From the beginning, where Scully breathlessly intones, “I’ve seen it. I’ve seen how it begins,” you know things are not on the up and up. Why on earth is CSM asking Skinner to “betray the whole human race?” Of course, the Assistant Director is taken aback.

We catch a glimpse of the new character Erica Price (Barbara Hershey) partially hidden in the shadows. After an impassioned Mulder exclaims, “the extermination of seven billion people,” anyone can see the stakes have definitely been raised.
Keep your eyes peeled because there is a glimpse of the Holy Grail for this year, William. Yes, Mulder and Scully’s son appears his face obscured but the outline visible in a black hoodie.
Oh, how we have been waiting for that parent and child reunion. It is also apparent that Skinner is not to be relied upon. Of course, his services are needed. There are plenty of meetings in underground parking structures.
Creatures are lurking in the darkness, Skinner and Mulder go mano a mano and although some of the scenarios have changed, the vibe of the series is still the same. Trust no one.
The Verdict
It is no surprise this trailer is masterfully shot. It has all the prerequisites for an epic movie. The effective music, the quick cuts, the murky scenes, concerned faces all of these things build to a fevered pitch. Everything is perfectly orchestrated.
Chris Carter is the ultimate showman. He knows what his audience wants and he delivers unfailingly. The anticipation for season eleven is at an all-time high for fans. 2018 can’t come soon enough.
