The stats are in! Each US state’s favorite family-friendly spooky movie according to this 2017 horror movie map!
I gotta say I’m pretty proud of these selections and have faith in the future generation with these glorious kid-friendly Halloween gems.
In a press release from Frontier Communications, the telecommunications company gathered Google data trends from last October in 2016 and used search stats from streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, in each US state to conclude what the most popular kid-friendly Halloween spooky film each state watched and searched for the most!

According to the map and what YOU the viewers searched for the most last year in October, it seems The Nightmare Before Christmas seems to take the overall top spot across the board with a fairly good portion of North America revisiting the Tim Burton classic. The states singing the tune of Halloween Town are Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire.
Another big winner for spooky kid movies turns out to be E.T.- See, I’ve always said that little slimy, elongated neck of an alien could be considered a horror movie. Speilberg’s 1982 extra-terrestrial epic is favorited by Minnesota, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont; while another creature feature treasure Speilberg is attached to as producer Gremlins, is universally loved by North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ohio, Maine, and Washington DC.
The remaining United States favorite family-friendly Halloween films are as follows:
- Coraline (California, Nevada)
- The Addams Family (Michigan, Rhode Island)
- Hotel Transylvania 2 (Alaska, Idaho, South Dakota)
- Goosebumps with Jack Black (Arkansas, Hawaii)
- Scooby-Doo (West Virginia)
- The Witches, 1990 version (Montana)
- Corpse Bride (New Mexico)
- Casper (Wyoming)
- Ghost Hunters: On Icy Trails (New York)
