The Exorcist: ‘Unclean’ and ‘One for Sorrow’ review

Hey friends. After correcting some internet problems I am back. Let’s discuss The Exorcist. I did not get to review the last two episodes with you so let’s compile them into one demonic good time. I was finally able to get caught on episode 3 and 4 of the series and they were good! Without further ado lets get into it.

Episode 3 Unclean starts off with a bang. It begins with a sinister feel and then catapults you into the episode and doesn’t let up for 45 minutes.

The episode opens with Cardinal Guillot from the previous episode hosting a meeting. We learned last episode, Guillot suffers from integration and is an agent of the demonic. Father Bennett unsuccessfully tried to out him but Guillot and the dark side were too cunning for his efforts.

As the satanic cabal meets, we see an unknown person crushing communion wafers in a dish. When the meeting concludes with desert, of course, they are treated to the apple concoction sprinkled with the wafers.

As they partake in eating they all begin to react violently. Vomiting what appears to be blood they all begin to become incapacitated. We learn the person crushing the wafers is in fact a woman who enters after everyone is subdued. We learn later this woman is Mouse and she is fighting the satanic conspiracy within the church.

As a final act of defiance she lights a match and throws it on the table. The fire soon engulfs everyone present as Mouse makes a hasty retreat.

We catch up with Andy and his home of loveable misfits. The previous episode ended with Shelby smearing lambs blood on the door for protection. Andy Kim the caretaker and sole foster parent in the house informs him that he should just stick to prayer. The reason for this is the presence of Rose, an investigator with the state.

Shelby knows something sinister is afoot but he seems to be dismissed. Meanwhile our favorite demon busters are on the run from the evil factions within the church. Father Tomas and Marcus Keene have found themselves in Washington state.

Tomas and Keene find themselves at the home of a little girl who exhibits all the classic signs of demonic possession. Imaginary friends and creepy drawings abound which convinces Tomas the little girl is in fact under the influence of Satan.

Keene realizes something is amiss. They realize that the girl is not possessed and is being manipulated by her mother. They realize they must remove the girl from the dangerous environment and soon.

Meanwhile Father Bennett is on a crusade to expose and stop the santanic conspiracy to infiltrate the church. He meets up with Mouse and the two team together much like Tomas and Keene to be a demon fighting duo.

Tomas and Keene are successfully able to remove Harper, the not demon afflicted girl, from her abusive environment with the help of social worker Rose. Harper gets placed with Andy. We learn that Andy’s former wife committed suicide and Rose is pressing Andy to find another adult to live in the house. Rose tells him with the caseload of children he currently oversees he needs another adult by state law.

Several unnerving events begin happening around the island and Andy’s including a whole flock of birds dive bombings the house and leaving a horde of dead birds on the lawn. Andy enlists the help of the Fish and Wildlife service to help explain the phenomenon. But we all know the devil’s handy work is to blame.

As Harper is getting acclimated to her new home, Tomas and Keene accompany her to help her get settled. As they are checking out the house Tomas is unnerved by something but he is not quite sure what it is.

Grace the youngest member of the house is an agoraphobic who lives in what appears to be the attic. When Andy is having a tea party with her and explaining that Harper will now be living in the house,  she appears to be talking to someone we can’t see. The earlier episodes led you to believe that possibly Caleb, the blind boy was the one to afflicted by the demonic.

The earlier episodes led you to believe that possibly Caleb, the blind boy in the house was the one that is afflicted by the demonic. But episodes 4 leaves you wondering just what is happening. Was Caleb a red herring to draw your attention away? Were Keene and Tomas originally wrong and Harper is in fact possessed? Is Grace the one who is bringing the evil into the house? Or is Verity the one who holds the key to the unusual and unnerving events that have taken place.

As all of this is unfolding Mouse and Father Bennett begin trying to make sense of what is occurring. In an undisclosed, underground location, Bennett learns that highly respected exorcists within the church are being infected with integration. Integration is the point of no return for souls. The demon has completely taken over.

Father Bennett and Mouse

Mouse shows Father Bennett a renowned exorcist who is now captive to protect the world from her evilness. Mouse informs Father Bennett that the battle between good and evil that has been waged for centuries is still occurring in real time.
