The haunting cliffhanger ending of Halloween III: Season of the Witch has kept horror fans guessing for years, but Tom Atkins says he knows what happened!

“It’s time, kids… gather round!”

When Halloween III: Season of the Witch first came out, it angered many franchise fans by excluding Michael Myers. In the years since, more and more fans have “seen the light” by recognizing how awesome the film really is. It’s truly a unique standalone film with an ending that’s freakier than any of the other flicks in the series.

In the closing moments of the movie, Dr. Challis (Tom Atkins) races to get a special Halloween broadcast taken off the air. If allowed to play, any child watching it wearing their special Silver Shamrock mask — millions of kids — will die an absolutely terrible death. His only hope is to convince the TV station managers to cut the broadcast. Though he manages to get it removed from two channels, it remains playing on a third, with Challis screaming for them to stop it.

Of course, that’s where the movie ends, leaving us to always wonder… did Challis manage to stop the third broadcast in time? Not knowing has haunted me for years, so, I went straight to Dr. Challis himself — Tom Atkins! At HorrorHound Weekend in Columbus, Ohio, I asked Atkins directly if he stopped the broadcast in time, and he had this to say:

"“You bet your sweet ass I did! Absolutely. I know it was a little vague there in the end, but I know what happened!”"

That’s good enough for me! Let’s just say I slept so much better last night knowing this information. You’re a hero, Dr. Challis — you saved Halloween (and the world).
