It’s Ash Wednesday everyone. At 1428 Elm, this is the day where we celebrate all things Bruce Campbell.  For those of you that were fortunate enough to attend one of the Last Fan Standing events on Bruce’s Hail to the Chin book tour, then this week’s selection will be pretty interesting. Join us as we journey into the vault for a look at the Quest for the Best!

“I’m entering the game show phase of my life.” – Bruce Campbell

Getting His Wink Martindale On

During his Hail to the Chin book tour, Bruce Campbell also found time to host a game show, Last Fan Standing in select cities. Imagine playing bar trivia but on a grander scale and you have the premise behind LFS.

The game is super fun and every audience member has a chance to be one of the contestants. Basically, before the main event fans participate in a pre-show where they answer questions in the following categories of horror, fantasy, science fiction and superheroes.

Correct answers are tabulated and the top four individuals with the best scores are selected to be contestants. Of course, the fan with the most points is the one that ends up winning the entire enchilada. The show is rather entertaining because Bruce gets to do what he does best, razz the contestants and wear awesome outfits.

Who doesn’t want to share the stage with an iconic personality like Campbell? It truly is a great way to get your geek on and have a good time. Of course, with any production of this magnitude there are various behind the scenes individuals who do a significant amount of work to see that the show runs smoothly.

The Players

Let’s meet the creative team behind Last Fan Standing.  One of the principals we already know, Bruce Campbell. According to the game show’s website lfslive.com, he is a “Comic-Con God, Actor, Director, Superstar, Host, Co-Creator and Executive Producer.” Wow. That’s a lot of balls to juggle.

Next up is a familiar face from the Hail to the Chin book tour, Steve Sellery. Steve is the CEO of Iconic Media Group, Inc. He is also the Showrunner, Co-Creator and Executive Producer.

Senior Producer and Director of Game Play is Robby Roberts and rounding out the list is New York Times Best Selling Author, Philip Van Munching who is also the Lead Writer, a Co-Creator and Executive Producer as well.

Now that the players have been identified, the origin of Last Fan Standing is actually very interesting.

The Origin Story

Last Fan Standing evolved out of Quest for the Best. In this original incarnation, the game show was designed to celebrate, entertain and salute the Armed Forces and veterans. According to Steve Sellery from the Vimeo QFTB presentation, “It is the first event of its kind in military history.”

Bruce was also the host of this game show. He came up with the concept of marrying his Comic-Con world with the Quest for the Best concept to create LFS. Check out the rare video at the end of this article to see how the game was originally played.
