Fan Theory: Tommy Jarvis resurrected Roy Burns… NOT Jason!

Tommy Jarvis infamously digs up Jason’s corpse in Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives, but what if, this whole time, it’s actually been Roy Burns?

Did last week’s revelation from Adam Marcus at HorrorGeekLife.com about Jason Voorhees being a Deadite blow your mind? Well, that was nothing compared to this fan theory!

In Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives, the story begins with Tommy Jarvis heading to Jason’s grave to destroy him once and for all. Haunted by the memories of Jason ever since killing him, Tommy believes destroying the corpse is the only way to end the nightmare. But before Tommy can burn the corpse, it’s struck by lightning, bringing back “Jason” as the unstoppable killing machine we all know and love.

But, what if I told you… that this wasn’t actually Jason Voorhees at all? What if, instead of Jason, that was actually the body of his copycat killer Roy Burns in that casket? I can already see you guys reaching for those torches and pitchforks now, but let’s take a second to look at the supporting evidence before you storm my home.

  • Dialogue in Part V suggests that Jason’s body was cremated, and he is now just “a pile of ash.” Considering Jason returned from the morgue once already, it stands to reason they’d cremate him the next time he was sent there.
  • Roy’s gravestone could have been incorrectly marked as Jason Voorhees. The undertakers in that area are clearly not very bright, and it’s logical they’d confused Roy with the real Jason.
  • Roy would have just as much resentment for Tommy as Jason, if not more so. Tommy cut short Roy’s revenge, and the evil EMT’s spirit is no less likely to “come back” than Jason’s.
  • Jason’s intelligence increases after coming back as a zombie, and he suddenly knows things he wouldn’t as the brain-damaged feral manchild he used to be. This includes things like breaking necks with surgical precision, navigating New York without getting lost, and understanding how liquid nitrogen works. Becoming a zombie shouldn’t make someone smarter, but Roy would already have this knowledge.
  • As for why everyone else, including Freddy Krueger, can’t tell that this is Roy, it’s because he’s decayed, masked, and still responds to Jason. Prior to dying, Roy had also completed his mental metamorphosis into becoming Jason Voorhees. In his mind, he is Jason — but his body is still Roy’s.

And as for the question some of you are probably wondering: if that’s Roy, and not Jason, then why does he have the same damaged eye?  To that, I can only offer this as a response.
