Friday the 13th: Top 5 victims (I really hated to see go)

We sign up for murder anytime we watch Friday the 13th or any other slasher film. Still, I’ve always been pretty bummed that these people didn’t make it.
As a huge horror fan, is it weird if I shed a tear for a slasher movie victim?
Throughout the course of ten films, a crossover, and a remake, Jason Voorhees (and his pals Roy and Pamela) have killed a lot of people. Sometimes, it’s morbidly rad — that liquid nitrogen kill from Jason X comes to mind. Other times, while the death scene may be well done, I can’t help but feel a little sad about the character not making it.
With that said, let’s talk about the killed-off characters whose deaths bummed me out the most, starting with…
5. Annie Phillips (Friday the 13th)
The first time I watched the original Friday the 13th, I quickly assumed Annie would be the lead character — the “final girl”, if you will. Early in the story, we learn that Annie had been hired as a cook for the newly reopened Camp Crystal Lake. Little did I know the poor girl would be dead before she ever even made it there.
To get to the campground, Annie decides to hitchhike. She doesn’t heed the warnings of the locals about the camp having some kind of a death curse. Instead, she hitches a ride with a nice woman in a Jeep, but realizes something is wrong once they end up passing the camp. Soon after it’s pretty obvious to Annie that this lady (Mrs. Voorhees, obviously) is planning to kill her.
Annie does make it away from the Jeep and into the woods, but it doesn’t matter. Mrs. Voorhees quickly catches up with her and slices her throat open. In addition to being so surprising, Annie’s death wound up stinging a little bit because the girl was just so nice and sweet.
