4. The Purge: The Island (July 4, 2018)

Directed by Gerard McMurray

Starring Y’lan Noel and Lex Scott Davis

I’ll be honest and admit that the Purge series is somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me. Its simple premise is fairly mindless — for one night a year, masked maniacs take turns killing each other. It’s no deeper than that, and yet, three movies later, I still find myself very entertained by the concept.

With this being said, I’m obviously looking forward to The Purge: The Island. Though it’s the fourth installment, The Island will actually be a prequel to the first film. The idea is that we will get to see just how the United States came to accept “The Purge” as something that happens every single year. Have you wondered how such an atrocity came to be normal? It’s taken four movies but it looks like we will finally be getting those answers.

James DeMonaco, who wrote and direct the previous films, is not returning to direct the fourth installment of the series. However, he did still come back to write the script, so the story is still all coming from the same creative mind.
