The ending for Jason Goes to Hell sets up for the crossover film Freddy vs. Jason, but licensing and creative issues would hold that movie off for years to come. In the interim, New Line ordered another Friday the 13th movie, this time set in space. In the future, Jason’s frozen body is unthawed on a spaceship, and he goes back to hacking up teenagers once again.

Jason’s new appearance is flaunted in both the film’s official trailer and on the poster. They call it an upgrade as futuristic technology transforms Jason’s body into something else entirely. It gives him a new look with a shiny metallic hockey mask, putting a sci-fi twist on the Jason character. The poster’s space backdrop only sells the concept further, as it makes no secrets about what kind of movie this will be.
