After the original debuted to solid buzz and great business, star Stephen Lang is saying we should hold out breath as Don’t Breathe 2 is on the way.

When all else fails, Don’t Breathe….

If you’ve been holding your breath for a year and a half, you’re in luck. Screen Rant is reporting a sequel is on the way to Fede Alvarez’s breakout hit, Don’t Breathe. The news is coming from Stephen Lang himself, who played the villain in the 2016 film. Currently, there’s no word on other casting, a start date or if the movie is officially greenlit.

Debuting in the fall of 2016, the Sam Raimi produced film became a hit upon arrival. Made for $9.9 million (according to Box Office Mojo), the movie eventually made $89.2 million — in the US alone. Eventually expanding into international markets, Don’t Breathe made a stunning $157.1 million total.

So the money’s there for another film. But do we really need one?

While a trip back into the house of silence may be tempting, I think this one should be left alone. Every film doesn’t need a sequel, although I know studio heads share a different perspective. Plus, the film isn’t character heavy, which is something a sequel can extremely benefit from. I mean, do you really want to see the “Blind Man” get revenge?

We’ll bring you updates on Don’t Breathe 2 as they break. Here’s hoping at least Alvarez comes back to the director’s chair.
