From the start, Wes Craven had planned for A Nightmare on Elm Street to be a standalone movie. However, New Line Cinema had other ideas after the film turned out to be such a smash hit. The next year, the studio rushed a sequel into production, against Craven’s wishes. Using a screenplay from David Chaskin and directed by Jack Sholder, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge kicks off the first of many sequels in the series.
For various reasons, this film has received a lot of controversy. Personally, it’s one of my favorites, and I credit the film for helping get me into the genre. No matter which side you stand, we should all be able to agree that the official poster is great. The skull and glove are a bit of a throwback to the original’s poster, only this time they’re a part of Jesse, alluding to the possession theme of the film.
