Eventually, New Line Cinema came to realize that they were running out of ideas for Freddy Krueger. Six movies in, the decision was made to legitimately kill Freddy off once and for all. Bringing an end to the nightmares on Elm Street, Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare was fully intended to be the last film of the series. The unique film dives deeper into Freddy’s backstory before taking him out with a bang, though, of course, the sequel isn’t without its critics.
It took six movies, but finally, New Line would move away from the traditional design utilizing Freddy’s face and claws. A more basic image of Freddy Krueger reaching out would don this poster instead, along with the image about the studio saving the best one for last. While the departure from its usual style is a little disappointing, there’s no denying that Freddy still looks like a badass on this poster, and he surely brought many fans into the theaters in the early 1990s.
