A Quiet Place: John Krasinski/Emily Blunt talk not being in Marvel Universe

After rocking the box office last weekend, the A Quiet Place creators are talking what a blessing it was to not be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A Quiet Place may have been even quieter…

According to Indie Wire, A Quiet Place was almost no place at all. After destroying box-office expectations, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt are enjoying the heights of film success. Playing husband and wife in the new horror hit, also married in real life, the couple’s new Platinum Dunes film is something special.

But the two came seriously close to fighting comic villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe instead of sound-hunting creatures. And shockingly so, we may never have gotten the monster movie at all.

“I think A Quiet Place definitely wouldn’t exist.” says The Office alum in an interview with Yahoo Movies. “I love Chris, I’ve been a friend of his for a while. Those movies are so much fun and I love watching them, I tell him I’m first in line to see his new movies. It’s that zen thing of let life take you where it may and I never would have been here if I had gotten ‘Captain America.'” While things are working out for the emerging filmmaker, his wife Emily is sharing the same sentiments.

“I don’t think I would have been able to do a lot of projects that I’ve loved doing,” says the popular actress who had to turn down work in Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The First Avenger due to scheduling. “I think that was a nerve-wracking prospect for me to not be able to choose, and the choices I have are often all I have, so you can’t really plan for anything else. You can’t predict what’s going to happen, what’s going to catch fire and what’s not, so if I make the choice for me, and not because I’m contracted, I think that’s an exciting prospect.” I for one am thanking the film gods these two were free to make their joint masterpiece.

After opening last weekend, A Quiet Place destroyed expectations and the competition. Taking in $50 million on a $17 million budget, Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes must be elated about now. If you’ve yet to experience the magnificent sound-driven film, I implore you to stop reading this and do so immediately. Not only is it a powerful horror debut, it’s one of the best films ever made. So, and I never thought I’d day this, I’m glad things don’t always work out in the MCU.

A Quiet Place stars Emily BluntJohn Krasinski and Millicent Simmonds. Krasinski directs a screenplay co-written by himself, Bryan Woods and  Scott Beck. Platinum Dunes produces, with Paramount Pictures distributing. The horror hit is now scaring in theaters everywhere.
