Halloween H20 – via Dimension Films

4. An Easter egg in Halloween H20 references this film

Big fans of the Halloween series know that the timelines get really wonky as the films go on. After the fourth, fifth, and sixth movies continued the storyline set by the originals, these films were ultimately ignored for Halloween H20. It made total sense to retcon the previous three sequels, as Jamie Lee Curtis was now interested in reprising the role of Laurie Strode. Because Laurie was described as being killed in a car accident off-screen in Halloween 4, rebooting the story was the only way to bring her back.

However, a certain Easter egg in H20 still references Laurie’s “death” in Halloween 4, making things a little more confusing. In the film’s opening credits, a newspaper clipping is shown which directly reports on Laurie’s alleged death. Because there’s no mention of the Thorn cult storyline in H20, the film is definitely not canonical with 4, 5, and 6. Still, mentioning that Laurie apparently faked her death is a fun reference to this movie which most fans didn’t notice.
