Elm Street: Dream Warriors horror’s version of Avengers: Infinity War

In horror, villains usually pick victims off until the final battle. With Elm Street’s Dream Warriors, Freddy Krueger fights our Marvel’s The Avengers.

You may still be digging Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, but we had ours back in ’87 on Elm Street….

Today’s our weekly celebration A Nightmare on Elm Street, and since we’re still reeling from the end of Avengers: Infinity War, I’ve been thinking about how Dream Warriors and the recent superhero smash resemble one another. If you haven’t watched either film, there are some supersized spoilers ahead. But come on, who hasn’t seen these brilliant flicks by now?

We’re the Avengers, Don’t Wanna Save No More

In the third Elm Street, old and new foes team up to fight the Springwood Slasher. Nancy, having battled the baddie years before, resurfaces to help a new batch of Elm Street kids while facing her fears once and for all. Along with Kristen, Joey, Kincaid, Philip, Taryn and Will, not to mention the trusty Neil Gordon, Nancy helps wage war with the real terror titian– the same happens in Avengers: Infinity War.

In the recent blockbuster, heroes from all over the galaxy unite to save existence from the hands of Thanos. While most have no clue who or how powerful the Mad Titan is, Gamora and Nebula (daughters of Thanos) know exactly who he is. To fight the foe, people knowing very little and others knowing a lot come together to take on a common threat.

More from A Nightmare on Elm Street

Another thing making both Dream Warriors and Avengers: Infinity War alike is the characters. While not matching up exactly, there are massive similarities between the two teams. Ready to dream a little dream?

For starters, Kincaid is the Hulk on Elm Street. The physical strength of the team, the brute crashes through walls and saves the day — just like the Bruce Banner alter ego. Then there’s Will, AKA “The Wizard Master.” This character is a lot like the doc of magic talk himself, Dr. Strange. Sure, they may look weak on the outside but they’ll whip some magical ass.

And the similarities don’t stop there. Psychiatrist Neil Gordon resembles Captain America, both wholesome good guys searching for a world fully righted. Kristen Parker reminds us of Scarlet Witch, a powerful woman who colossally causes change within their respective teams. And then there’s Freddy and Thanos, both doing what they feel is right — even though that leads to countless innocent deaths.

An Entire Dreamland. Once and For All

After both teams battle their vengeful villains, the Dream Warriors and Avengers are left fractured and weakened. While Freddy kills a large number of his apposing gang, finally offing Nancy and forever altering the land of Springwood, Thanos rids the galaxy of half its inhabitants in a single snap. Although the Mad Titan lives, while Krueger is vanquished (until the box-office numbers come in), both really win in the end. Freddy gets his foe and Thanos balances existence. And in both worlds, the nightmare is just beginning.

This has been another edition of Freddy Friday. We’ll see you sleepers next week in Springwood.
