Don’t Hang Up is a twisted cautionary tale about prank calls
Don’t Hang Up will make you think twice about prank calling someone!
Don’t Hang Up may sound like something from the ’90s but it was released in 2016. It’s about four teens who find social media fame by filming their prank calls. The teens find their actions to be funny and love the internet attention. Someone though is about to turn the tables on them.
The movie’s plot is based around Brady and Sam hanging out because Sam’s parents are away for the weekend. It doesn’t take long before the boys keep getting phone calls from a Mr. Lee. At first, the teens think it’s just a harmless prank, but soon learn that Mr. Lee isn’t playing games. He wants to break them. It doesn’t take long for the bodies to pile up.
Don’t Hang Up stars Gregg Sulkin, Garrett Clayton, Sienna Guillory, Bella Dayne, Jack Brett Anderson, and Parker Sawyers. It was directed by Alexis Wajsborot and Damien Mace.
I honestly will admit I didn’t have very high hopes for Don’t Hang Up after watching the trailer, but I did end up watching it anyway. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised by how glued I was to the TV.
Now I wouldn’t say that the acting was great. Don’t Hang Up, is a total B-movie and the characters are barely likable. What I will say is that its pacing and suspense was there for me. I found that the ending was the icing on the cake for me. What Mr. Lee ends up doing to Sam, is pure chaotic.
So where does Don’t Hang Up stand with other “don’t answer the phone” movies, I would say that it’s better than the remakes of When a Strangers Calls and One Missed Call, but it wasn’t near as good as the original When a Stranger Calls or Scream. Overall though Don’t Hang Up is entertaining enough and I would give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.
So if you want to watch the R-rated teen horror movie, it’s currently on Shudder and Amazon Prime Video.
