Ghost: 25 of the best songs for noobs
By Devin Shea
9. Elizabeth
The first on the list from Ghost’s debut album, Opus Eponymous, in 2010, this was sung by Papa Emeritus I. This song tells the story of the Hungarian countess and one of the most prolific female serial murderers, Elizabeth Bathory, that would bathe in the blood of young virginal women in the hopes to stay young and beautiful. While the stories of her bathing in blood is hearsay, there are hundreds of witnesses to her murders of hundreds of women. I love the live versions of “Elizabeth” and it is one of my personal favorites.
